Two classic British brands, Barbour and Loake Shoemakers, have joined forces and launched a men’s footwear range that offers timeless style and quality built to last.
These two long-established family-owned brands have notched up 274 years of experience in the British fashion and lifestyle industry and are renowned worldwide for quality craftsmanship. While each of the individual brands has a classic style and rich history, they are both looking forward and evolving, combining skill and experience with both modern and classic styles.
Barbour was founded in 1894 by John Barbour, who spotted a gap in the market for weatherproof outwear for the sailors and fishermen in the port town of South Shields, which he adopted as his home. Five generations later, the family business is still thriving.

John, William and Thomas Loake founded the shoe business bearing their name in 1880, gaining a reputation for handcrafted, high-quality footwear. 140 years later, that still holds true, and the family-owned company uses those same time-honoured production techniques to this day.
The range consists of three different styles: a classic country-inspired Derby shoe named Fernsby and a Chukka boot named Loughty, which will be available in the UK from both Barbour
and Carmichael, based on a classic Penny Loafer, which is available from Loake
.

Each pair is made using Loakes Goodyear Welted construction and takes up to eight weeks to complete. It combines 75 components and 200 different shoemaking techniques. Like all of the products made by both brands, the footwear range uses the most durable fabrics and crafts the products using age-old techniques.
“Loake shares an attention to detail, quality and function that Barbour also prides itself on, so melding the intrinsic approaches of these two brands has been a very positive, authentic experience. Loake’s attitude to smarter wear takes us into a new sub-genre, too; a genre which we’re excited to embark on,2 commented Ian Bergin, Director of Menswear, Barbour.
“At Loake, we have always admired Barbour’s enduring commitment to heritage, quality, and craftsmanship. Our shared values – of using time-tested methods and durable materials – made the collaboration feel seamless,” said Loake’s Director of Sales and Marketing, Richard Utting. “Collaborating with Barbour has enabled us to blend our expertise in shoemaking with the signature detailing of their iconic outerwear to create a footwear collection that embodies the legacy of both brands. Together, we’re crafting pieces that not only look timeless but are built to last.”
