One of the first things most guys do each morning is pull on a clean pair of boxer shorts. Wouldn’t it be great if, in doing that, you weren’t just covering your butt, you were helping raise money for a worthy cause? Newly founded underwear brand And Then makes that happen. And it’s sustainable, too.

These luxurious feeling boxer shorts are made using 95% bamboo and 5% elastane, making them super soft to the touch, with a light, breathable feeling against the skin. Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants on the planet, making it a more sustainable alternative to cotton in clothing manufacturing. It allows manufacturers to keep the quality and comfort of products as high as possible while reducing the environmental impact.

In addition to feeling extremely comfortable, bamboo boxers are hypoallergenic. The bamboo’s natural organic fibres also wick away moisture and sweat, leaving you feeling cool and dry, even on hot summer days and nights.

Available in various sizes, from small through to 3XL, and in a range of different colours, you can choose from a single pair or several multipack options. They aren’t a cheap option, but the more you buy, the better value for money you’ll see.

We tried some of And Then’s boxers — that’s proper consumer journalism, right there — and were impressed. They were longer than expected but fit snugly around the leg and didn’t squeeze too tight in more delicate areas. A ‘wonderbro’ pouch holds everything in place but leaves enough room for essential airflow, which helps to keep that fresh feeling. A panel by the inner thigh is made in a different stitch, creating an area that seems to slide more easily than regular cotton or polyester, reducing chafing and keeping the legs in the right place.

Only the elastic band lets things down, but only slightly. It’s tight enough, with no slipping, but more, ahem, shapely men will find the band rolls down, folding in half and creating a strip that doesn’t spread the load quite so evenly.

These ultra-comfy shorts were the brainchild of brand founder Katie Goodrum. We’re all aware of the UK’s declining mental health, particularly in men, and Goodrum, with a young son of her own, felt the need to act. We have to admit we aren’t quite sure why that drove her to create bamboo pants, but thank goodness she did! The brand donates 50% of all profits to the charity Movember.

Movember is working to change the face of men’s health and shine a spotlight not only on mental health and suicide prevention but also on prostate and testicular cancer.
