When people like to get out and about, having a baby shouldn’t stop them and buying the right stroller for their needs is the key. The Urban Glide 3 from Thule is the newest all-terrain stroller from the Swedish brand, which aims to keep everyone on the move. We took it for a spin to see if it got our Mini Joe’s seal of approval.

The Urban Glide 3 stroller is an all-terrain pushchair that is lightweight and manoeuvrable, making it a great option for jogging parents and lesser mortals alike. It looks great, too, with a slick, streamlined design that oozes style. It comes in two colourways — the standard yet chic black and a sophisticated mid-blue that makes it stand out from the crowd.

Thule Urban Glide 3 Features

When the stroller first comes out of the box, there is very little to do before you can hit the pavement. The wheels simply click into place, and the canopy zips and clicks easily to the frame. Adjust the five-point harness correctly for your little one, and you’re good to go.

Thule Urban Glide 3 with bassinet

The list of available accessories includes a bassinet for newborns and very wee ones, so you can make the Urban Glide 3 a 2-in-1 travel solution. The bassinet not only looks good but is also collapsible, so once the baby is big enough to sit comfortably in the stroller, it can be stowed away without taking up too much space.

Car seat adaptors are available if you don’t want to invest in a bassinet. You can simply use your infant car seat in place of the bassinet and then move on to using the stroller seat as the baby grows.

The stroller can be used from a relatively young age, as it can be tilted well back. It’s not entirely flat but goes far enough for a young child to sleep comfortably.

One of the great strengths of the Urban Glide 3 is the amount of storage available. The water-resistant basket within the frame is well-sized and can accommodate a useful amount of shopping or a nappy bag, up to a maximum weight limit of 7kg. A zipped pocket on the front of the basket is perfect for your phone and keys if you’re running or don’t want to carry a separate bag, and elasticated mesh pockets on the back of the seat keep things in easy reach while you’re out walking.

There are a couple of small elasticated nets on the inside edge of the stroller sides for older children to store a few little things to keep them amused, which is a nice touch.

Thule Urban Glide 3 extended canopy

The stroller’s canopy is a great size, providing lots of shade in the summer and keeping the wind and mild rain off in the winter. Unzip the canopy, and it extends even further, which is great if the seat is reclined and gives extra protection to the pint-sized passenger. On top, there’s a peek-a-boo flap, which lets you also keep an eye on them.

Once you’re back home, the one-hand folding mechanism works well, folding the stroller in half for storage. It is still relatively bulky but can self-stand, which does help with storage.

Thule Urban Glide 3 Handling

The first thing we noticed about the Urban Glide 3 was how light it is to carry, unfold, and push. This made it easy to manoeuvre over different terrains, and — not that we tried it — that would make jogging with it a breeze, too. The front wheel can be easily locked into a static position, which is particularly important for joggers, and the stroller’s lightweight nature means that even in the locked position, cornering would still be easy.

One great feature is the handbrake — yes, we said handbrake. The Urban Glide 3 has the standard footbrake to hold it firm while parked but also has a twist-grip handbrake in the centre of the handlebars, giving you ultimate control while walking or jogging downhill. In all honesty, it’s something you might not use very much, but we think it’s a nice touch and could come in handy now and then.

No matter the terrain, Mini Joe was in for a comfortable ride, thanks to the combination of air-inflated rear tyres and suspension, which smoothed out the bumps nicely and kept him happy and relaxed. The fold-out footrest and reclining seatback can be deployed easily, taking Mini Joe from being upright and attentive to out-for-the-count and napping within seconds.

Thule Urban Glide 3 Verdict

The Urban Glide 3 is a great all-rounder if you like to get off the tarmac and onto rougher terrain or you’re a runner. Its larger wheels make it easy to manoeuvre over pretty much any surface, and provide a smooth ride at speed. The adjustable handle means you can find the perfect position for your height.

It’s nicely balanced to make the front end light and easy to steer, but I would be very cautious about hanging anything from the handle, as it could make it prone to tipping, particularly if you have an unsettled Mini Joe shuffling in the seat. Use the well-sized under-seat basket, though, and it’s nice and stable while static.

The basic stroller is competitively priced compared to direct rivals, but adding extras like the bassinet will inevitably push the cost up, although not to unrealistic levels. You’ll probably need to pop the rear wheels off to transport it easily in the back of a compact car, but that’s a simple push-and-click motion that takes seconds.

It’s an excellent option for active families, and it’s also available as a four-wheeled option for those looking for a more city-based version.
