The New Nokia N86 – Throw Away That Camera

Nokia has released details of its new N86 phone. I wasn’t going to post much about this, but as I owned the N80 and N95 and loved both, I think it’s fair to say I’m a little excited about the possibility that this could be one of the best phone/camera combos out there.

Inside the smart white case, you’ll find 8Gb of storage with a microSD card slot that can take another 16Gb chip. Nokia has embedded its Nokia Maps service and included a-GPS to ensure you get a solid lock on your precise position.

It all runs on Symbian OS software, so apps from the Ovi Store will be compatible with the new phone.

The screen is a 2.6-inch OLED panel with bright colours and high contrast. A built-in stand holds the phone up, enabling users to watch movies and TVs on the screen. However, if that’s not a big enough screen, or the 240×320 resolution is a little low, then there’s also a TV-out port that means you’ll be able to hook it up to a full-size TV.

The big talking point is the camera, of course. There’s an 8-megapixel sensor behind a Carl Zeiss Tessar lens. There’s also a proper autofocus system and a dual-LED flash to light up dark scenes. It’ll be able to record video at 30 frames per second, at a 480p resolution, which is fine for displaying on a television or monitor.

Nokia expects the N86 phone to be available in the early summer.
