Let’s be honest, the motivation to head to the gym can be lacking. One minute you’re revved up and smashing the reps, the next you’re months into an expensive gym membership without having set foot through the door. We get it. But what if you had everything you needed for a workout at home? We tried some home gym equipment from Mirafit to see if it could provide the answer.

What’s hot
+ Well-built equipment delivered to your door
+ Budget-friendly options available
+ No more wasted gym fees

What’s not
– Maintaining motivation can be a challenge on your own
– Check the sizing as some pieces are big

What do you need for a beginner-friendly start?

The great thing about a home gym is that you can start small. Be realistic about what you’ll actually use and what you want to focus on. An obvious starting point is a set of dumbbell weights and an exercise step

For relatively little outlay — under £100 — these two pieces of equipment will help to build strength and stamina when used for just a few minutes each day. If exercise isn’t usually a part of your daily routine, going in too hard is at best going to put you off and at worst cause an injury. By setting yourself small goals for the first few weeks that you can stick to, you’re more likely to form exercise habits that will last, and you can build on over time.

These are also great if you have limited storage space. The step breaks down and can be tucked away when you’re not using it, and the dumbbells come complete with a neat storage stand that can slide into a cupboard or behind the sofa.

Looking for more of a challenge?

If you’ve already got a decent level of fitness, but want to set yourself a more challenging workout, the Mirafit VKD dip station is one to add to your home gym. Starting from £200, with a little extra for the optional pull-up extension, it is a bit more of an investment, but it is a superb piece of kit.

It’s perfect for dips to help build your upper body strength and arms, as well as for leg and knee raises to strengthen your core. Add in the pull-up extension and you’ve got your complete arm and core workout in one. Don’t judge our Joe’s efforts here -—he’s still building up to that one!

You’ll need a bit of space for this one. It’s not huge, but it is tall, so you might need to set up a garage or spare room gym. It’s delivered in component form for self-assembly, but it isn’t difficult to build. I’d recommend knowing where you’re going to position it before you start assembling it, though, as moving it is a little unwieldy.

What’s the quality like?

The Mirafit equipment we’ve tried has been solid and well-made, as you’d expect for a well-established, respected brand. The only exception is the stand for the dumbbells, which feels a little flimsy, but it’s functional and keeps everything tidy.

The VKD dip station and pull-up extension are well finished and incredibly stable, which inspires confidence. Be sure to tighten the bolts well during the build, and remember to check them every now and again, just for peace of mind.

As your fitness levels increase, you can add other elements to your home gym, space allowing. From cardio to kettlebells, Mirafit will doubtless have something that suits your needs and falls within a price bracket that isn’t eye-watering.
