Mercedes Unveils the 2009 E-Class Coupe

This is the fresh-faced E-Class Coupe, replacing the ageing Mercedes-Benz CLK and setting itself up to go toe to toe with the Audi A5 Coupe.

The new Mercedes model blends the front end of its E-Class saloon sibling but differs entirely from the windscreen pillars all the way to the back of the car.

You’ll also find LED tail lights and self-levelling headlights, which not only add a touch of modern aesthetic appeal but also enhance visibility and safety during nocturnal journeys. Also boosting safety is the Attention Assist software. This feature monitors signs of driver fatigue or inattention and alerts the driver when drowsiness is detected.

An adaptive suspension system will improve ride quality by adapting to varied terrains and driving conditions, promising a consistent, smooth ride.

Diving into the powertrain options, the E-Class Coupe will launch with three engines: a pair of four-cylinder units, in both diesel and petrol variants, and a fire-breating flagship, the E500. This will produce an impressive 383hp, and is pictured above fitted with the AMG Sports Pack.

While the standard petrol engine will suffice for many, the eco-friendly E350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY will be the favoured option for most. It will deliver 228hp while managing an impressive 41.5mpg and emitting a mere 139g/km of CO2 per mile.

The stylish coupe will go on sale in June, with a convertible model following by the end of the year — just in time for winter! You’ll be able to see the car in person at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
