Mercedes Biome Concept Car You Can Grow Yourself

We hadn’t featured a concept car for a while — mainly because few had that real wow factor. But the Mercedes Biome might just be the new kid on the block.

First things first: this is truly a concept. Don’t expect to see anything like it on the road any time soon (or in our lifetime, frankly), as the technology belongs more in Avatar than on the M25.

The headline idea? The Mercedes Biome chassis, body, and even the fuel tank are made from something called BioFibre. What’s that, you ask? According to Mercedes, it’s a genetically engineered organic material that can grow from a seed into the exact shape of the car within 24 hours.

Yes, it sounds mad — but if it ever worked, the local village’s giant-marrow competition could get very interesting indeed.

Mercedes claims the material is lighter than metal but stronger than steel. Bold words. A quick tip for Stuttgart’s engineers, though: maybe check where the wheels actually touch the ground, because that delicate trolley jack just won’t cut it.

Is this a vision of an eco future or just another sci-fi fantasy on four wheels? We think it might just be the latter…
