The Chesterfield Hotel may not be as famous as The Breakers, but could it be the hidden jewel in Palm Beach’s crown?

Situated just two blocks from Worth Avenue, the Chesterfield has 52 rooms across five different categories, ranging from Queen Rooms to the hotel’s one and only Penthouse.

Each room is individually decorated, with its own artwork, furniture and character, so no two stays should feel quite the same.

A Near-Perfect Location

One of the Chesterfield’s biggest strengths is its location.

Walk five minutes east and you’ll be on the beach, with the Atlantic lapping at your feet. Head a couple of minutes south and you’ll find yourself among the shops, galleries and restaurants of Worth Avenue.

Travel west across the bridge and you’ll reach West Palm Beach, with its livelier mix of cafés, bars and shops.

For a short stay on the island, it makes an excellent base.

Plenty of Personality

We loved the way the Chesterfield mixes traditional style with modern comfort.

The rooms have far more character than your average chain hotel, with bold fabrics, classic furniture and plenty of unusual touches.

If you can, try to get one with a padded wall. Imagine Sean Combs rubbing his face against the wall in Get Him to the Greek and you’re not far off. Aside from looking different, it probably adds a bit of soundproofing too — useful if you happen to be on your honeymoon.

The Leopard Lounge

The Chesterfield is also home to the Leopard Lounge, which has recently been renovated and is open to both hotel guests and the public.

As the name suggests, the décor isn’t exactly subtle. There are animal prints, elaborate fans and plenty of colour, but it all adds to the hotel’s sense of fun.

The lounge works equally well for a quiet family lunch, drinks in the evening or a full night out with dinner, cocktails and live music.

There’s also a courtyard outside, with both sunny and shaded seating for anyone wanting something a little more relaxed.

Pool, Library and Cigar Room

Elsewhere, the hotel has a private guest pool surrounded by sun loungers.

It’s a proper suntrap, sheltered from the wind and tucked away from the street, making it a great place to lose a few hours.

Inside, the library is another highlight. Traditional leather Chesterfield sofas provide somewhere quiet to read, relax or enjoy afternoon tea.

There is even a cigar room, along with private areas for meetings or a little peace and quiet.

A Palm Beach Favourite

All in all, we loved our stay at the Chesterfield Palm Beach.

It has an excellent location, plenty of character and a far more intimate atmosphere than some of the island’s larger hotels.

Our only real complaint was that we couldn’t stay longer.
