If you’re looking for something just a little more adventurous to do this half term, then why not head to Alexandra Palace. The top, to be exact, where you can walk the roof of one of London’s landmarks at Summit Ally Pally.
The guided roof walk gives you a chance to take in and explore Alexandra Palace – affectionately known as Ally Pally – from 130 metres above sea level, which makes it the highest elevation for a roof walk in the UK. Families can combine outdoor time with panoramic views across the London skyline, as Summit invites visitors to step onto the roof of the historic North London venue and discover a different side of the People’s Palace.

If heights make you nervous, fear not. Aerial adventure experts Wire & Sky run Summit, which also manages other experiences across the capital. The team will harness you up and give a safety briefing before you start the climb. The climb is at a relaxed pace, ensuring the youngest (minimum age is 8) and the oldest alike can enjoy the experience.
The experience gives families and friends the opportunity to spend time together, take on a challenge and see how many familiar landmarks they can spot across the capital. Guides lead the walk, sharing stories about Alexandra Palace, its rich heritage and its place in London’s history along the way.

For those keen to make a day of it, the roof walk can be combined with time exploring Alexandra Park, enjoying its open spaces and autumn scenery.
As the evenings draw in, Summit’s later Sunset and City Lights climbs also offer alternative ways to experience the skyline. Watch the changing colours over London with the Sunset climb, timed to capture the sun going down over the horizon. The City Lights climb takes that experience one step further, revealing the illuminated capital in all its glory after dark.
This autumn also marks the 90th anniversary of the launch of the BBC’s regular television service from Alexandra Palace in November 1936, adding another layer of history to a visit to the landmark.
Whether you’re planning a London day out or just looking for something different close to home, Summit offers families a memorable way to experience Alexandra Palace.
