If you love retro trainer styling, the Saucony Progrid Series, released as part of its spring/summer collection, should be on your sneaker shopping list this season.
Saucony’s campaign is entitled ‘Tomorrow, Meet Yesterday’ and features the return of iconic models, such as the Progrid Triumph 4, Progrid Omni 9, and Progrid Omni 9 Premium. The company has looked to the styling of its past to inform the design of its future — well, for this season, at least.
The new season is an opportunity for Saucony to continue its mission of bridging the gap between performance and lifestyle. The Progrid Series is a testament to this dedication, offering a balance of style and functionality.

The Progrid Omni 9 Premium, part of the Progrid Series, is a unisex trainer that caters to all retro-style enthusiasts. It’s available from £135
in various colours and sizes and seamlessly fuses retro looks and a chunky feel with breathable mesh uppers and a recycled lining and footbed, making it a versatile choice for any wardrobe.
Enough about the concept, though; what about the trainers? Straight out of the box, they look and feel like a premium product. The finishing is excellent, with no rough edges or loose threads. The chunky soles not only enhance the retro styling but also provide plenty of grip.

Slip your feet inside, and you’ll notice how comfortable the sole is, with a substantial layer of padding to keep your feet cosseted all day. There’s also plenty of cushioning around the opening and the heel, and we detected no pressure points that would cause discomfort. Generous proportions to the toe box and heel are hallmarks of Saucony’s products, making them more comfortable for everyday use, which holds here.
If you are going to wear trainers during the height of summer, you want to know that things aren’t going to become hot, sticky, and, after a while, stinky. Helpfully, the Progrid Omni 9 Premium has you covered there; a mesh upper allows lots of air to flow around the foot, keeping you dry and cool as the temperatures rise. This should also help to stop odour from building up, as dampness will dry out rather than fester and develop pungent bacteria.

One minor downside is that the mesh upper panel will more easily allow fine dust and sand into the toe box. The mesh also means that your feet will likely drift from cool to chilly as temperatures drop later in the year.
However, that’s a small price to pay for having stylish and comfortable feet this summer, and Saucony’s autumn/winter collection will undoubtedly have something suitable for the next season.
