The nights are drawing in, and temperatures are falling, so to keep all you Average Joes and Janes warm and add some extra style to your winter wardrobe, we’ve taken a peek at a few well-known fashion brands to see what they have to offer.

New Era Heritage Crew Neck Sweatshirt
£65

Is there anything more comforting on a cold day than a warm sweatshirt? This unisex crew neck offering from sports style brand New Era fits the bill, no matter your shape or size. The soft fleece lining is an excellent insulator, whether you’re layering up to head out into the chill or just lounging at home having a duvet day.

The pale grey colouring is neutral and understated, with the bold logo adding a splash of colour and interest. It’s made with 65% recycled materials and will make a great and timeless addition to your winter wardrobe.

New Era Heritage Crew Neck Sweatshirt / New Era E-Touch Gloves and Beanie Set

New Era E-Touch Gloves and Beanie Set
£33

So your body is warm and cosy, but what about the extremities? That’s where the New Era E-Touch Gloves and Beanie set comes in! Both beanie and gloves are emblazoned with the New Era heritage logo and edged in white to give a little more definition.

The best part, though, is that the gloves incorporate E-touch in the thumb, index and middle fingers of both hands, so there’s no need to remove your gloves to work your smartphone. They work really well, too, so this winter, you can text and snap photos even in the depths of winter without cold fingers or chilly palms.

P&Co 304 Albion Carpenter Pants
£90

If you’re fed up with jeans and want something a little different, 304 Albion Carpenter Pants could be just what you’re looking for. The design takes styling cues from classic workwear, with cargo-style pockets and contrasting brass rivets, giving a fabulous utilitarian look.

The fit is great, thanks to waist adjusters you can take in or let out to create the most comfortable fit possible. They are made from 8oz cotton canvas and triple stitched at the seams, so they’re tough, durable, and super stylish — a great buy to last this season and well into the future.

P&Co Fleet Cord Overshirt
£100

Overshirts are BIG this season, and this Fleet Cord relaxed fit Overshirt from P&Co is one to add to the wardrobe. It is durable, thanks to the tough cotton corduroy material, but also has plenty of room for layers underneath, as it’s unlined, giving you versatility.

With two breast pockets and a smuggler’s pocket on the inside, there are plenty of places to stash your phone neatly. The fabric is of nice quality and looks great for a smart or casual outfit — perfect for party season and a boost for your winter wardrobe.

P&Co Fleet Cord Overshirt / Toms TRVL Lite Moc Chukka Boots

Toms TRVL Lite Moc Chukka Boots
£95

New to Toms autumn/winter range, the TRVL Moc Chukka Boots are a take on the Desert boot, but are a vision in suede. They are available in two colours, coffee or black, but we prefer coffee because it has a warmer feel and looks great against the white sole.

The Chukka boots look great and can be paired with jeans and a sweatshirt or overshirt, as worn by our model, or would look equally as good worn with chinos and a blazer for a more formal look. They are comfortable to wear, too, which will be a bonus if you’re out and about a lot this party season, although they do come up a little big, so beware of that when you order. Being suede, they give a little as they wear in, but take that into account, and you’ll be happy with your choice.

One word of warning, though — as they are suede, you might want to protect them correctly before heading out into any wet winter weather, as there is no mention of waterproofing. Better to be safe than sorry, and keep your Toms looking tip-top this season and beyond.

Santa Cruz Digi Dot Women’s T-Shirt
£26

If you’re looking for a splash of colour, this 100% cotton short-sleeved t-shirt from Santa Cruz effortlessly does that. Add in the simple yet elegant Santa Cruz logo, and you have a fine base for all kinds of outfits.

It’s well-fitted and feels nice and soft to the touch, which also bodes well for the piece’s longevity. Pair it with an overshirt or cardigan for a casual, comfortable winter look.

Santa Cruz Crescent Shirt
£75

The Santa Cruz Crescent Shirt in maroon check is part of the autumn/winter collection from Santa Cruz, and a lovely thing it is, too. With a full-length zip and two breast pockets, one of which has a woven logo detail, and buttoned cuffs, it will make a great-looking top layer to help stave off the winter chill.

Made with 100% cotton, the Crescent Shirt is simple in style but has plenty of colourful personality to make it a piece worthy of a place in our winter wardrobe. As it’s unlined, it will undoubtedly be worn through into the spring and early summer.

Wax London Whiting Cord Overshirt in Sand
£125

This regular fit cord overshirt is part of the men’s collection at Wax, but we think it works no matter who you are. It’s made from super soft cotton blend corduroy, and it feels fabulous to both wear and touch.

With a standard collar and patch breast pockets, the Whiting Cord Overshirt looks stylish and comfortable in equal measure — in fact, it was our pick of the overshirts we looked at for both quality and versatility.

Wax London Whiting Overshirt in Navy Astro Check
£145

The Whiting overshirt from Wax is sustainably made using 90% recycled cotton — something which Wax is passionate about. It’s a pretty heavyweight material, which makes the Whiting overshirt a tremendous top layer this season.

When we head out of winter towards the warmer temperatures of spring, the versatility of this shirt means you can forget the extra layers underneath and just wear the shirt — the material might be heavyweight, but it has a soft feel that makes it comfortable to wear against the skin, too. Given the price tag, it isn’t one to impulse buy, but it will wear well for several seasons.

Lands’ End Women’s Water Repellent Waxed Cotton Jacket
£170

For those days when the winter weather gets a little too much, this stylish women’s waxed cotton jacket will be the perfect outwear not only to look great but also to keep you warm and dry.

The waxed jacket look is great for both town and country, and this particular jacket has a timeless elegance that we love. Underneath the rain-repellent waxed outer, you’ll be kept warm by the 100% recycled polyester insulation. The outer flap and pockets are held closed by poppers, which can be a little stiff to open and close, to begin with, but that gives you the peace of mind that they are nice and secure.

Lands’ End Men’s Quilted Jacket
£100

For a nice hit of lightweight warmth, this men’s quilted jacket is a hit with us. As well as being water-repellent and fully machine washable, it is made entirely from recycled polyester. From the shell to the lining, and everything in between, you’ll be warm and toasty while being kinder to the planet — a win-win in our eyes!

It’s a nice jacket for those chillier days as we head into winter, and with a standing collar, once it is zipped up, drafts will be kept well and truly at bay.

Lands’ End Women’s Classic Wool Coat
£230

This classic style is so versatile that you can wear it just about anywhere, from the office to the Christmas party, and plenty more in between. It’s not an inconsiderable investment, but it has a timeless elegance and durability that will make it wearable for more than just a season or two.

The natural wool outer will help to keep the chills at bay, and with two large concealed poppers to keep you bundled up, you’ll love getting out and about in the crisp, dry air. As you might expect, though, it’s not water resistant, but grab your umbrella on the way out or head for the nearest coffee shop if it rains, and you’ll look stylish and dry while you indulge in a spot of people-watching.
