When you think about a round of shots on a night out, you’d probably think of tequila, bourbon or whisky — but what about gin? No, it’s not one we’d ever really considered until we tried Wattshot. 

Unlike other gins, Wattshot has been designed to be drunk neat as a shot, combining eight rooted botanicals with cherry juice to create a unique yet subtle flavour that, thanks to the clever, scientifically derived recipe — combining botanicals with floral notes and cherry juice and balancing all-natural sugars, amino acids, salts, alkaloids and acids — leaves a little electrifying tingle on the taste buds too.

Wattshot’s founder, Stuart Logan, wanted to create a gin-based drink that stood out from the crowd, giving gin lovers a whole new experience. “It took a long time to develop Wattshot,” said Stuart Logan. “It’s a new concept, and I had to get the flavours and the sensation exactly right. I’m confident this will change the way people think about drinking gin.”

Wattshot Tasted

The experience of drinking a shot usually consists of the overwhelming hit of strong spirits, which can take your breath away, and, in many instances, is a pretty unpleasant sensation. Wattshot, to our surprise, has no huge alcohol hit that makes your eyes water. In fact, it was a little too easy to drink, even as a shot. The delicate cherry flavour wasn’t too sweet and balanced well with the botanical and floral hints. There was a minor tingle on the lips, but that wasn’t as pronounced as I had expected, but maybe that’s a good thing.

It can be mixed to make a tall drink, or even used in a cocktail or two if shots are not something you’re a fan of, but to be completely honest, we didn’t get as far as mixing it — the shot went down far more easily than expected.

With plans afoot to expand the range beyond the £30 bottle of Wattshot, there could be a few more messy nights ahead.
